This week, we have been imagining what winter would be like were it human. We drew an image of winter as a person and then wrote sentences to describe them. We were inspired by the poem 'Seasons' by Valerie Bloom. An excellent job from Harry, Alfie, Rose, Isabelle, Brodie and Daniel on their winter poems!
Year One End of Term Christmas Activities
Christmas Crafts in Year One
We have been in the Christmas spirit this week and getting involved in Christmas crafts and helping to decorate the Millfield playground!
Olive Class Christmas Carols!
Jingle Bells
Olive Class enjoyed venturing outside today to safely sing some Christmas songs! We sang 'Deck the Halls', 'Santa Claus is Comin' to Town', 'Silent Night', 'Away in a Manger', 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and 'Jingle Bells'!
Making Fruit Pizzas
Fruit Pizzas Cooking Class
Here is our Elm class cooking class to teach you how to make your own fruit pizzas at home.
Fruit Pizzas Cooking Class
Here is our Olive class cooking class to teach you how to make your own fruit pizzas at home.
In Year One, we made fruit pizzas using raspberries, grapes, bananas and blueberries. We recorded ourselves giving instructions to make the pizzas for our very own Millfield cooking show.
Junk Model Buildings
We were inspired by the building work at Millfield and spent Tuesday morning designing and building our own cardboard houses. We thought about the features of a house and what they definitely needed and then got to work building them out of junk modelling materials.
The Snail and the Whale
We have been writing our own version of Julia Donaldson's 'The Snail and the Whale' in Year One this week. Well done to Jack C who worked extremely hard on his sentence structure and also passed his spelling target this week!
Ocean Setting Description
We took our imagination to an underwater setting this week and used our five senses to describe it. Well done to Lea who wrote this shimmering sea description!
Poem Writing in Year One
Well done to Hayden in Elm class who used rhyming words to write a great poem this week.
We were inspired by the poem 'The Treasures' by Clare Bevan.
Well done to Sydney in Olive Class who chose some brilliant adjectives and animals to add to her rhyming couplets poem.
In Year One, we have been working on making some reasonable adjustments to our classrooms to help us to support children in their learning.
We have created a carpet area in both classrooms, which will allow for more engaged and age appropriate teacher input. Children will be sat in lines facing forward on the carpet and will remain with their line as they transition to the tables.
The tables have been laid out in a way that ensures that no child is face to face with another child. Please see below for a few photos that show the changes we have made in Elm and Olive classrooms.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Best wishes from the Year One Team
