Welcome to the Elm and Olive Year Group Page

 

Meet the Year 1 Teaching Team

Welcome to Year 1. We are looking forward to all the exciting learning we will be doing this year.

 

Important Information:

  • PE is twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. The children will need to wear PE kits for these sessions. Please send your children to school in their PE kit every Monday and Wednesday. 
  • Each week we will post the learning for next week on a tab on this page. Please check this weekly as it will contain the key learning for Year 1, as well as links and ideas to help you support your child at home.

Year 1 Phonics Screening

Please find the PowerPoint we used during our Year 1 Phonics Screening Meeting. Within the slides, there are links to help support you and your child prepare for the phonics screening. Please also find the links to Phonics (Reading at Home) sessions on our weekly forthcoming learning.

Bread and Butter Pudding Recipe and Instructions

Today in Olive and Elm class we followed instructions to make a bread and butter pudding. The children had the opportunity to taste their fantastic puddings and really enjoyed them! By the children's request, we have uploaded the instructions that we followed (above) and included the recipe for anyone who wishes to make a bread and butter pudding of their own at home (below).

Ingredients for Bread and Butter Pudding:

  • 100g sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 5 slices of any bread
  • Butter
  • 3 handfuls of sultanas
  • 500ml milk
  • 2 eggs

 

Method: 

1. Preheat oven to 190 c / Gas mark 5. Lightly grease a baking dish.

2. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon.

3. Butter 5 slices of bread, cut in half.

4. Layer the bread in the dish adding handful of sultanas and the sugar mix as you go, covering each slice. 

5. Mix the milk and eggs together and whisk. 

6. Pour over the bread and leave to absorb for 10 minutes.

7. Bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes, until the pudding is set and browned.
