Year 1

Welcome to the Elm and Olive Year Group Page

A warm welcome to Year One. We have had a lovely start to this new school year and are looking forward to all the exciting learning we will be doing this year.

Important Information

  • PE is twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The children will need to wear their PE kits for these sessions. Please send your child to school in their PE kit every Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Each week we will post the learning for next week on this page. Please check this weekly as it will contain the key learning for Year One and links and ideas to help you support your child at home.

Learning for the week commencing:

Poem Writing in Year One

Well done to Hayden in Elm class who used rhyming words to write a great poem this week.

We were inspired by the poem 'The Treasures' by Clare Bevan.

Well done to Sydney in Olive Class who chose some brilliant adjectives and animals to add to her rhyming couplets poem.

Year One Classroom Layout

In Year One, we have been working on making some reasonable adjustments to our classrooms to help us to support children in their learning.

We have created a carpet area in both classrooms, which will allow for more engaged and age appropriate teacher input. Children will be sat in lines facing forward on the carpet and will remain with their line as they transition to the tables.

The tables have been laid out in a way that ensures that no child is face to face with another child. Please see below for a few photos that show the changes we have made in Elm and Olive classrooms.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Best wishes from the Year One Team
