We are pleased to share further information regarding live sessions for Millfield children that will start on Friday 29th January 2021.
Every child that is currently remote learning at home will be invited to two virtual live sessions each week. One will be a group session with other children learning at home; your child’s class teacher will contact you via email with your child’s designated time by 10am on Monday 1st February 2021. In the meantime, you can view the allocated day and time period for your child’s class below. The other meeting will be a whole year group session on a Friday, which will include children learning at school. Please see the table below which shares year group times. This week only the Friday year group session will take place. Both sessions will be offered from next week (WC: 1.02.21).
The Millfield staff team are working incredibly hard to provide a range of remote learning opportunities for children. In addition to the learning posted on your child's Year Group Page on our school website please also encourage your child to view the Whole School Page; https://www.millfield.herts.sch.uk/whole-school/. This will be frequently updated and includes the following:
We hope your child enjoys these additional videos.
As mentioned (in the news update on Wednesday 20th January), a few randomly selected Year 4 children trialled a 10 minute live ‘talking time’ session with Mr Hughes. This was highly successful and as a result, we are pleased to offer one, possibly two, live ‘talking time’ sessions every week. This will start with a live session for your child with their class at the end of next week.
These ‘talking time’ sessions will provide your child with opportunities to see and catch up with friends, as well as their teacher. They will have a pastoral focus and will not be live learning sessions, however, there may be opportunities to discuss learning. This is for many reasons including: the availability of devices for some of our families, the sharing of devices between siblings (recorded videos and resources enable children to learn at an appropriate time for their family), the availability of staff, the working at home needs of our parents/carers and staff, as well as other individual circumstances.
During home learning some of the Millfield children watched Jane Considine's (Mrs C) live lessons to support them with their writing. They worked incredibly hard and were very determined to use new vocabulary in their story. Here are some pieces of learning that the children have created. We are very proud of their hard work!
All Millfield staff are disappointed not be inviting children back to school today to start a new term within a new year. However, we must follow Government regulations to best support and protect our community. The safety of all children, their families and staff is of utmost importance to us.
Our plans to welcome children back this term were suddenly put on hold after the Prime Minister’s announcement at 8:00pm on Monday 4th January. During this announcement, it was stated that all schools must close and remote learning, as well as an onsite provision for children of critical workers and vulnerable children should commence. Millfield staff are working hard to ensure we can offer this new onsite provision and remote learning from Wednesday 6th January 2021.
