Can your child grow the tallest sunflower?
We are running a competition to find the tallest sunflower grown by Millfield children.
If your child would like to take part, please send an entry fee of £2 with your child in a named envelope to school by Tuesday 25th May 2021 and we will get 2 sunflower seeds to them before the end of the half term. The sunflower seeds need to be planted as soon as possible.
Any money raised will go towards resourcing Millfield’s PSHE, RE and PE curriculum.
Please see the letter emailed out or follow the link: https://www.millfield.herts.sch.uk/communication/ for more information, along with instructions for measuring sunflowers.
If you do not have a garden, your child can still join in. They may wish to grow a sunflower in a pot or ask a relative/friend if they could plant their sunflower seeds in their garden.
We look forward to seeing Buntingford and the surrounding area awash with sunflowers over the summer.
We are excited to be taking part in Walk to School Week next week.
We all know the health benefits of walking so please help us this week to reduce congestion by supporting children in being more active and help reduce lower carbon emissions during this Walk to School Week.
We would like to encourage all our pupils to try and walk, cycle or scoot to school during this week. If it’s not possible to walk all the way, then it would be great if you could park 10 minutes away from school and walk or scoot the last part of your journey. If your child travels to school by bike or scooter, please ensure the bike/scooter is taken home as we are still unable to store these on the school site due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Hertfordshire Libraries are excited to launch their new initiative, ‘Growing into Reading’ to promote reading for pleasure and to encourage primary school aged children and families back into the habit of regularly visiting their local library.
From Thursday 13th May, children visiting the library will be gifted a FREE giant bookmark and a wildflower seed bomb (while stocks last).
Each time the child returns to the library they can have their bookmark stamped. With its environmental theme, ‘Growing into Reading’ is the perfect lead into this year’s Summer Reading Challenge ‘Wild World Heroes’.
