  Monday	6:00pm PTA AGM in the School Hall: Please see the email and communication from the school and Millfield PTA. Please come and join us to support Millfield.

  Wednesday	NHS Flu Immunisations catch up session: Please see the information sent out for further information.   Reception children will be visiting Christ Church in Buntingford for a Christingle service.
  Thursday	Millfield Art Competition: Children will enter a piece of their Art learning which may be displayed in our Art Gallery.
  Friday	Occasional Day: Millfield is closed for children and staff.
  Attendance: Whole school attendance this week was 95.2%. • Christmas celebrations

  As the festive season approaches, we are delighted to share with you an overview of the exciting Christmas celebrations planned at Millfield. We want to make this time of year memorable for our children and create a joyful atmosphere for all.

  Monday 2nd December	Millfield Christmas Raffle tickets go on sale.
  Wednesday 4th December	Reception children to visit Christ Church in Buntingford for a Christingle service.
  Monday 9th December	11:00am Nursery Parents Christmas Stay and Play.
  Tuesday 10th December	10:00am Reception Nativity for Apple Class parents/carers at St Peter’s Church in Buntingford.   2:00pm Reception Nativity for Cherry Class parents/carers at St Peter’s Church in Buntingford.
  Friday 13th December	Christmas Friendship Ladder activities for KS1 & KS2 children in the morning.   2:45pm Playground Carols for KS1 & KS2 parents/carers: We are thrilled to be inviting parents/carers to listen to KS1 & KS2 children sing Christmas carols. Children will be gathering on the playground between Year 3 and Year 4 classrooms where they will be facing the school field. The woodland gate and field gate will be open to access the site for this event just before 2:45pm. This is a wonderful way for a large number of parents/carers to be part of a school event. We will ensure that children are wrapped up warm in their coats etc. If your child would like to bring in a Christmas item to wear whilst they sing, we would welcome this e.g. tinsel or a Christmas headband/hat.   Christmas jumper non-school uniform day for children and staff. Please note, we are aware that the National Christmas Jumper Day is on Thursday, however, the children have decided that they would prefer to wear Christmassy clothes on the same day as Christmas Friendship Ladders and when we perform our Christmas Carols.
  Week commencing: Monday 16th December	Class/Year group parties. If necessary, further information will follow from Class Teachers.
  Monday 16th December	Sleeping Beauty Pantomime at The Spotlight in Hoddesdon for Year 1 to Year 4 children.   Search for Santa Pantomime performance for Nursery and Reception. This performance is planned to take place in school, however, if we are not able to access the hall due to the hall refurbishment it will take place in a local venue and will be shared accordingly.
  Wednesday 18th December	Christmas Dinner Day for children and staff.   Millfield Christmas Raffle prize draw.
  Thursday 19th December	Award Assemblies for Millfield children.
  Friday 20th December	End of Term Assembly for KS1 & KS2 children.   School finishes at 1:10pm.

   

• Christmas Raffle

  As shared, we are excited to be holding a Christmas Raffle on Wednesday 18^th December. There are lots of fantastic prizes to be won from a Christmas Hamper to vouchers such as a 5-person farm pass. Tickets will go on sale from Monday 2^nd December and can be purchased from the school office at any time. On Wednesday 4^th and Wednesday 11^th December we will be selling the raffle tickets in the playground after school.

  

• Message from Year 3 Teachers:

  On Wednesday 4^th December, children in Year 3 will continue with their animations in Computing. They will know if they need to bring in a mini figure/animal. Please ensure they bring their mini figure/animal into school by Wednesday 4^th December.

  On Thursday 5^th December, Year 3 children will be making their castles in D & T. If possible, please send your child to school with the following items:

  • Kitchen roll tubes or similar tubes
  • Small boxes e.g. a cubed tissue box
  • A flat piece of card e.g. from a cereal box, to use as a castle base.

• Open Morning for Nursery (2- & 3-year-olds) and Reception Prospective Parents

  We have added an additional open morning to our calendar on Thursday 9^th January 2025 at 9am. If you know of any local family or friends considering a school-based Nursery (2- and 3-year-olds) or have a Reception aged child for 2025-26, please direct them to contact our school office on 01763 271717 to book a place.

  

• ‘Learning Powers’ Metacognition session for Reception to Year 4 Parents/Carers

  Thursday	11:00am Nursery (2- & 3-year-olds) & Reception Prospective Parent/Carer Open Morning: Here at Millfield, we look forward to welcoming prospective parents with children starting school in September 2025 for a tour.

• Egyptian Day Workshop

  It was wonderful to provide our Year 4 children with an amazing Egyptian workshop today. They had a fantastic time immersing themselves in a fun-filled, educational day packed with hands-on activities, engaging quizzes and exciting games. The highlight was their group investigations, where they explored Egyptian artifacts and uncovered fascinating insights into life in Ancient Egyptian times.

  

• Phonics Workshop for Reception and Year 1 Parents

  It was a pleasure to invite parents to school this week for our Phonics Workshop. Mrs Gilbert shared our Read Write Inc (RWI) approach and explained how parents can support at home with phonics and reading. Thank you to all the parents who attended the workshop and to Mrs Gilbert and Mrs Brown for hosting the event. Parents commented on how lovely it was to see Reception children in action – thank you to Miss Collingwood for inviting parents into a Reception phonics lesson.

  

• Year 2 Class Assemblies

  Well done to Birch and Maple Class children who recently performed their class assemblies with enthusiasm. Children shared their learning all about Autumn and the Great Fire of London. It was lovely to welcome parents to these events. We were very proud of their performances especially their wonderful singing.
