We were delighted to welcome staff from Buntingford Library, who visited the children to introduce the Hertfordshire Summer Reading Challenge. The children learned about this year’s theme, “Read to the Beat”, which encourages young readers to explore the links between stories, music and creativity. [summerread...nge.org.uk].
The challenge is free to join through any Hertfordshire Library. Children are encouraged to read six library books over the summer holidays, earning stickers and rewards along the way. Books can be read independently, shared with family members or enjoyed as audiobooks.
The visit inspired great excitement and we hope many of our children will take part in the challenge and enjoy a summer filled with reading.
The Year 4 children enjoyed a memorable leavers’ campfire, celebrating their time at Millfield with songs, laughter and reflection. It was a wonderful opportunity to mark the end of an exciting chapter before moving on to Year 5.

Nursery children and staff had an amazing day visiting Standalone Farm. They had great fun exploring and learning about all the farm animals and the children even had the opportunity to play in the park area. All the children were great representatives of Millfield, well done Nursery!
The children thoroughly enjoyed their transition sessions this week, spending time with their new teachers, support staff and peers. They took part in a variety of fun, ‘get to know you’ activities, and there was a real buzz of excitement throughout the school. Teachers have discussed key information about the year ahead, helping the children feel prepared and confident for the changes to come.
Year 4 had an especially exciting day, visiting their new schools and getting a fantastic glimpse into the next step of their school journey.
Year 1 had an adventure at Hatfield Forest, enjoying a fun-filled day of exploration, creativity and discovery! The children took part in a variety of exciting activities, including a nature walk through the beautiful forest, a hands-on creative workshop and a calming nature mindfulness session.
Throughout the day, the children were enthusiastic, engaged and eager to learn. They embraced every opportunity with curiosity and excitement, while proudly demonstrating Millfield’s school values at all times. Their excellent behaviour and positive attitude made us incredibly proud.
A huge well done to all of Year 1 for making the day such a memorable success!
