Whole school attendance this week was 96.54%. Well done ๐ to Rowan Class who were the class winners for attendance with an amazing 99.3% ๐๐.
It was a pleasure to welcome librarians from Buntingford to Millfield this week as part of celebrating World Book Day. The visits provided a wonderful opportunity for our children to further develop their love of reading and storytelling.
During the sessions, children explored a wide variety of books, discovering different genres, authors and illustrations. They also took part in creative activities, such as designing their own front covers, using their imagination to think about what their own stories might look like.
The children particularly enjoyed story time with the visiting librarians, who brought the stories to life and inspired lots of excitement about reading.
We would like to thank the Buntingford librarians for visiting and helping to make our World Book Day celebrations such a memorable experience for the children. ๐
Here are the book-inspired dishes the children created for World Book Day. Did you guess which dish matched each story correctly? ๐๐
All the children loved Mrs Lewis’ t-shirt today! It certainly caught everyone’s attention and sparked lots of conversations about reading.
Mrs Lewis really hopes the children follow the advice on her t-shirt and is looking forward to hearing all about how they are reading 6–7 times a week! ๐โจ
Children were also treated to a very special World Book Day pantomime, performed by our teachers – Miss Phillips and the Beanstalk! It was full of laughs and the children loved seeing their teachers take to the stage.
Some of the children shared their favourite parts of the show:
“When Miss Phillips and Mr Hughes were being chased!”
“When Miss Phillips climbed the beanstalk.” (The beanstalk was brilliantly played by Mr Rome!)
“When Mr Rome (aka the beanstalk) was cut down!”
It was a fantastic way to bring stories to life and celebrate the magic of books together. ๐โจ
Millfield children looked fantastic in their pyjamas for World Book Day! We had a wonderful time sharing stories together and celebrating our love of reading.
As part of the day, the children also created a dish inspired by their secret book. They had lots of fun thinking carefully about how to represent their story through food.
Can you guess which book each dish represents? ๐
Keep an eye out for our next post, where we’ll reveal the answers to see if you guessed correctly!
We were delighted to welcome Hannah Shaw to Millfield today for a truly inspiring author visit! ๐โจ
Hannah led engaging workshops and wonderful storytelling sessions for all year groups, capturing everyone’s imagination from start to finish. The children loved hearing about her creative journey and discovering more about her fantastic Unipiggle series.
Thank you, Hannah, for such a memorable day filled with creativity, laughter and a real love of reading. We are so grateful for the time and energy you shared with our school community! ๐
