Our Year 2 children had a thoroughly enjoyable day at the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens. They explored the rainforest inside the glasshouse and were amazed by one of the largest trees in the UK near the pond area. The children were especially excited to spot and identify wildlife during their visit. They were fantastic representatives of Millfield throughout the trip, well done, Year 2!
Year 2 Birch Class Pupil Voice: 'There was a plant that was around when the dinosaurs lived!'
Year 4 visited Hazard Alley on Monday to learn more about how to stay safe. They participated in a range of scenarios including how to stay safe near water, online safety and finding safe places to cross roads. The children experienced making urgent phone calls to the emergency services and putting someone into the recovery position. The children very much enjoyed the trip and were great representatives of Millfield. Thank you to the Year 4 teaching team for organising such an important trip for our children to experience real life challenging scenarios.
Well done to Elm Class and Olive Class for their fantastic class assemblies this week. The Olive Class children impressed everyone by sharing their learning about the seven continents, while Elm Class delighted us with their exploration of Spring. It was wonderful to welcome parents to these special events and we were incredibly proud of all the children’s performances, especially their beautiful singing!
Year 4 arrived at Hazard Alley at around 10:30am and quickly went into their groups. Everyone is excited and ready for a great day of learning ahead! 🚦😊
Whole school attendance this week was 95.99%. Well done 👏 to Willow Class who were the class winners for attendance with an amazing 98.3% 🏆🎉.

Additionally, for any children who wish to wear skirts on the day, please ensure they wear shorts underneath. It was fantastic to welcome so many parents and carers to our Family Friday Science session this week! The session provided a wonderful opportunity to share the children’s learning and progress, as well as for families to enjoy time together in the classroom environment.
As part of science week, Millfield children from Nursery to Year 4 created stunning pieces of artwork inspired by patterns in nature. Each year group explored a different theme, from leaf patterns and spirals to symmetry, animal markings and patterns in water. The children showed great curiosity while learning about these natural patterns and their thoughtful pupil voice comments were added to the artwork to share their observations. The final pieces look absolutely amazing and really showcase the children’s science and creativity learning. 🎨✨
Over the week, children across all year groups have taken part in a range of exciting science explorations. From melting chocolate and learning about rocks to testing foil boats and much more, the children have loved investigating, experimenting and discovering new things. It has been a fantastic week of curiosity and hands-on learning! 🔬✨
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Mini Millfield today! It was lovely to welcome so many families with young children. We had a wonderful time and look forward to seeing you all again next week.
We are already for our new Mini Millfield group and looking forward to welcoming families.
