We are ending this Summer half term in sunshine! We have enjoyed our award celebration assemblies this week – we congratulated all children for their hard work and effort over this term. Millfield children have been committed and engaged in their learning – we are so proud of them all. We wish you all a lovely half term break – hopefully in the sunshine!
Thank you to all who have entered Millfield’s Sunflower Competition.
Please note today is the last day to enter.
Entry fee is £2. Thank you
We would like to say a huge thank you to Baldock Tesco for donating a vast amount of plants to Millfield.
A selection of children from each year group have had the opportunity to plant these lovely flowers around our pond area, as well as in pots which are now positioned outside the front entrance to the school.
Thank you to Mrs Kershaw and Mrs Taylor for supporting the children to plant these flowers.

Children have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating ‘World Day for Cultural Diversity’ today. Classes took part in learning activities all about different countries and their cultures. Rowan Class made Welsh love spoons out of salt dough. The spoon was decorated with various symbols of love and were traditionally intended to showcase the skills of the carver. Children in Willow Class were learning all about Norway and made trolls. The trolls of Scandinavian myths, known as jötnar, are famously giants that turn to stone in the sunlight. Learning about different countries and cultures will also take place next week for some classes.
We are excited to be providing our Holiday Club over the May half term break for Millfield children. If you require to contact the Wrap Around Care staff out of school hours (this includes the time of Breakfast and After School Clubs, as well as Holiday Club) please phone on the ‘out of hours’ school number: 07851734833.
Can your child grow the tallest sunflower?
We are running a competition to find the tallest sunflower grown by Millfield children.
If your child would like to take part, please send an entry fee of £2 with your child in a named envelope to school by Tuesday 25th May 2021 and we will get 2 sunflower seeds to them before the end of the half term. The sunflower seeds need to be planted as soon as possible.
Any money raised will go towards resourcing Millfield’s PSHE, RE and PE curriculum.
Please see the letter emailed out or follow the link: https://www.millfield.herts.sch.uk/communication/ for more information, along with instructions for measuring sunflowers.
If you do not have a garden, your child can still join in. They may wish to grow a sunflower in a pot or ask a relative/friend if they could plant their sunflower seeds in their garden.
We look forward to seeing Buntingford and the surrounding area awash with sunflowers over the summer.
We are excited to be taking part in Walk to School Week next week.
We all know the health benefits of walking so please help us this week to reduce congestion by supporting children in being more active and help reduce lower carbon emissions during this Walk to School Week.
We would like to encourage all our pupils to try and walk, cycle or scoot to school during this week. If it’s not possible to walk all the way, then it would be great if you could park 10 minutes away from school and walk or scoot the last part of your journey. If your child travels to school by bike or scooter, please ensure the bike/scooter is taken home as we are still unable to store these on the school site due to COVID-19 restrictions.

World Day for Cultural Diversity: Children will be learning all about different countries and their cultures through fun and engaging activities. |
Please ensure your child has an adult from home to walk them on to the school site and around the one-way system to their classroom. The only children that are permitted to walk into school independently are Year 4 children.
If you are a dog owner, please be aware that your dog cannot be left and tied up outside the school grounds. This is for the safety and wellbeing of the number of children and adults accessing this area, as well as the wellbeing of your dog. Thank you for your support.
