    Alice Hemming Author Visit

Millfield children thoroughly enjoyed Alice’s visit this week. EYFS, KS1 and KS2 children all took part in a fun and engaging workshop based on storytelling with their classes, exploring the magic of stories through creative activities and group participation. The children were inspired by Alice’s visit and loved engaging with her stories. Alice thanked Millfield staff and children for their warm welcome and passion for learning. Many thanks to Mrs Lewis for arranging this exciting opportunity!

    Red Nose Day

It was wonderful to see Millfield filled with red today in support of Comic Relief! The children had a fantastic time sharing their jokes with their classes, filling the day with fun and laughter. Here are a few of our favourites:

Why did the scarecrow win an award?
Because he was outstanding in his field!

Why couldn’t the bicycle stand up by itself?
    Because it was two-tired!

What do you call a bear with no teeth?
    A gummy bear!

At the time of writing, we have raised an incredible £117—thank you so much for your generosity and support! Your donations will make a real difference.

Year 2 Trip to Cambridge Botanic Gardens

Our Year 2 children had a thoroughly enjoyable day at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens today. They explored the rainforest inside the glass house and looked at one of the largest trees in the UK beside the pond area. The children were excited to find and point out the wildlife. Year 2 children were great representatives of Millfield – Well done to Year 2!

    PAWS Visit

Blue, our school dog, is taking part in the PAWS Therapy Dog Programme, which will further equip him and the school dog handlers with everything we need to know and do to deliver safe and effective animal-assisted therapy. Blue impressed the trainers from PAWS this week with the range of exercises that he could confidently complete. He also learnt new exercises, such as an ‘emergency stop’ and a ‘spin’. Well done Blue!

  • British Science Week 2025

    Fri 14 Mar 2025

We are so pleased to have taken part in activities to celebrate BSW at school this week. The theme this year is ‘Change and Adapt’. Children have taken part in various activities, such as watching live lessons by the National Farmers’ Union, learning about Sustainable AI and being immersed in a live space lesson.

Investigations have included: what should be flushed down the toilet, how sports and games can be adapted for children with disabilities, how crystals form and grow, as well as how butter can be made. Classes are also in the process of measuring children to find the average height in each class to provide a visual graph to show how we change as we get older.

We have also been talking to the children about how science is all around us all the time, from the cars they travel in, the games consoles they may use and the kitchen equipment in their homes.

A highlight for our KS2 children was their Kapla workshop yesterday. Thank you to the parents and carers for their contributions to enable this event to happen. It was great fun, the children thoroughly enjoyed this construction experience; four hours of work, by over 100 children, resulted in an impressive display of sculptures in the hall. The demolition phase was a lot quicker than the construction phase! Please take a look at the photographs.

We have also been talking about careers that use Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills. If any parents/carers would like to come in and talk to the children about how STEM is used in their jobs, please let us know (not just scientists, but anything that uses science, e.g. opticians, medical workers, hairdressers, geologists to name a few).
