Our New Respect Charter
Fri 25 Sep 2026This week in our Topical Assembly, we focused on one of our school values, Respect, and explored what it truly means in our everyday lives.
Together, the children shared some fantastic ideas about how we can show respect to ourselves, to each other, to our learning and to the world around us. We discussed how respect helps us to build positive friendships, create a safe and happy school community, care for our environment and take pride in who we are.
Using the children's ideas, we are now creating our very own Millfield Respect Charter. This charter has been written by our school community, for our school community, and will help us all to understand what respect looks, sounds and feels like across our school.
Respect is important because it helps everyone feel valued, included and safe. Whether it is listening carefully to others, looking after our classrooms and outdoor spaces, celebrating our differences or showing kindness through our words and actions, respect is something we can all demonstrate every day.
We are incredibly excited to share our completed Respect Charter with you soon and look forward to working together as a school community to bring it to life. We know our children will be brilliant ambassadors for respect both in school and beyond!

KS1 & KS2 Friendship Ladders Autumn 2026
Fri 25 Sep 2026We are very proud of the children for their excellent focus during our Friendship Ladder morning this week. Throughout the session, the children explored the important message that “we all have the right to feel safe all the time.” They reflected on what this means in their everyday lives and discussed ways they can help to make sure that both they and others feel secure and valued.
The children also worked on their ‘Network Hand’, identifying five trusted adults they can talk to if they ever feel worried, unsafe or in need of support. This activity encouraged them to think carefully about the adults in their lives who can listen and help, whether at home, in school or within the wider community.
It was wonderful to see how thoughtfully the children engaged with these important themes, and we are confident that the ideas they explored will support their friendships, wellbeing and confidence in speaking up.

Science in Year 4!
Fri 18 Sep 2026Year 4 have been investigating how sound travels through water. They carried out exciting experiments, made predictions and discovered that sound can travel differently through water compared to air.

9:00 – 10:00am Mini Millfield: We are looking forward to welcoming families to our next Mini Millfield session for children aged birth to 4 years. Little ones can enjoy messy play, music, stories and a snack – all for just £1 per child. No booking required – just come along. We can’t wait to see you!
Friendship Ladders: As part of our ongoing commitment of promoting children’s safety and wellbeing, children will be taking part in activities designed to help them understand how to keep themselves safe.
One key activity will be creating their ‘Network Hand’. This is a simple and meaningful exercise where children identify five trusted adults they can turn to if they ever need help, support or someone to talk to. This helps children build a strong personal support network, both in and out of school.
These sessions are delivered in an age-appropriate and sensitive way, ensuring children feel safe, confident and empowered.

Fri 18 Sep 2026Whole school attendance this week was 97.76%.
We are delighted to celebrate two weeks of excellent attendance across the school. Thank you to our children and families for helping us make such a positive start to the term.
Being in school every day helps children feel settled, confident and ready to learn, and we have certainly seen that reflected in classrooms across the school.
To celebrate this fantastic achievement, the children enjoyed a song and dance during Celebration Assembly today. It was wonderful to see the children joining in with such enthusiasm and enjoying the opportunity to celebrate their collective success. Well done everyone and thank you for your continued support!

Pupil Voice Groups
Fri 18 Sep 2026We value the thoughts and opinions of all our children at Millfield and therefore have a wide range of Pupil Voice Groups within our school. The children who represent their peers in these groups ensure that the views of the children have a clear forum; this helps to shape the direction of the school. Most groups meet at least once a week. The children for these groups are selected in a variety of ways; sometimes they are voted for by their peers, while other times they are selected by their teachers.
School Council elections will be held on Thursday 24th September, please see the email sent to Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 parents/carers. Following the elections, we will begin organising our other Pupil Voice Groups, including:

Peer Mentors
Sport Stars
Online Safety
We look forward to seeing children getting involved and having their voices heard!
