We often receive questions from parents/carers about how the children learn in school and how they can support their child’s learning. With this in mind, we are pleased to offer parents/carers the opportunities to visit us at Millfield to learn more about our curriculum and how to support children with their learning. A Very Royal Thank You!
In the Summer term, Millfield School Council worked together to create a card and a letter which was sent to King Charles to mark his coronation; within the card we included a Millfield Coronation Medal for him to also keep as a keepsake.
We were thrilled to receive a very special delivery this week all the way from Buckingham Palace! It was a decorative card and personalised letter from the Head of Royal Correspondence on behalf of The King thanking Millfield children and staff for our ‘very kind letter, and for the charming wooden commemorative medal’.
This was shared and celebrated within our celebration assembly today. Children were delighted with this news!
Home Learning
At the beginning of the school year, teachers are in the process of introducing and/or reminding children of our home learning opportunities. This will include logins to our online platforms which will be stuck into reading record diaries when children have been introduced to the platform/s. Fri 08 Sep 2023It has been a pleasure to welcome all children back to school this week, including our new starters in Nursery and Reception. All staff have been incredible impressed with how children have so quickly settled into a brand-new school year showing our school values and positive learning behaviours.

It was great to see so many children showing their parents and carers their new classrooms on Wednesday. At Millfield, we always encourage children to take ownership of their learning spaces; this was evident only two days into a new term! We are very much looking forward to further events where parents and carers join us in school. Millfield staff have supported children in school during the hot weather we are experiencing. Children have been very sensible with drinking plenty of water, wearing suitable clothing and remaining in the shade when outside. Thank you for your support in preparing children for this weather i.e. suncream, water bottles and hats.
Extra-Curricular School Clubs start next week. There is still availability for some clubs, please see the letter sent home earlier this week for more information. There have been slight adjustments to the classrooms that will be used for collection of children at 4:15pm. Please check the table below to see where to collect your child from.

Books are used to support and engage children in a variety of subjects including English. Please see the books that children in Key Stage 2 classes are focussing their learning:

If your child has a copy of their class book at home and would like to bring it into school to use in their lessons, they are more than welcome to.

Fri 01 Sep 2023Welcome to the new academic year! We hope that all Millfield children and their families have had a wonderful Summer break and are excited for the year ahead.
Millfield staff, along with several contractors, have been busy preparing the school site for children’s return.
- Poulton and Sons have levelled our Nursery outside space and installed astro-turf to help us utilise this outside learning space all year round.
- Our Reception toilets have been refurbished.
- With the help of staff and children’s design skills and knowledge of our curriculum in the Summer term, over the holiday Wall Art have created 4 wonderful wall wraps (displays) in the Hub. These include a fantastic World Map with a large compass, a bespoke historical timeline, a British Values display, which includes a map of the UK, and finally, a vibrant Millfield Kitchen display. It’s so important to us at Millfield to create an environment which supports children’s learning.
- A range of classrooms have new furniture to maximise the learning space.
Please keep a look out for photographs of these new areas that we will share early next week. KS1 and 2 parents/carers will have an opportunity to view these changes during the Meet the Teacher session after school on Wednesday 6th September.
To support with smooth and prompt arrival and collection times, all three perimeter gates will continue to be used as entrance and exit gates.
- The school gates will open for arrival by 8:40am.
- The classroom doors will open and the registration period will start at 8:45am. Early morning learning will commence at this time.
- The gates and classroom doors will close at 8:55am when all children should be in school.
- The school gates will be open for parents/carers to collect children just before 3:15pm.
- The school day will finish at 3:15pm when classroom doors will open and children will be collected.
- The playground pedestrian gate will be the only gate available for drop off and collection times outside of the school day e.g. The Cabin and Extra-Curricular School Clubs.
For staff training purposes on Tuesday 5th September, The Cabin provision (Breakfast and After School Clubs) will not be running. The Cabin provision will therefore start as normal from Wednesday 6th September 2023.
Class Timetables and Year Group Pages are in process and will be posted on the school website for when children return on Tuesday 5th September.
The Calendar on our school website will continue to be utilised this year as a way of sharing important dates with parents/carers. This will now replace the Termly Diary Dates that were previously posted on the school website as well. Children’s Books: Children will be bringing home their school exercise books. To help with the transport of these books, please send your child into school with a named strong bag e.g. a bag for life.

Fri 14 Jul 2023We have all experienced a week full of fun and new experiences at Millfield! From a seaside experience and Schoolympics to workshops on relaxation, mindfulness and laughter, we have all been kept very busy.
On Thursday morning, children excitedly moved up to their new classrooms and were keen and curious to get to know their new teachers and support staff. They were learning, making and sharing information to support their transition into the next academic year. There was such a buzz in school for the whole day; we are all so proud of Millfield children.
Year 4 children were bursting to share information about their Year 5 experiences during the transition day at their new middle schools. We felt so proud of every child and received lovely feedback from the new schools regarding Millfield children – Well done Year 4!
Thank you to Year 1 parents/carers, who have recently attended Year 1 Class Assemblies. I’m sure the Year 1 parents/carers would agree that the children did an amazing job at sharing their learning in front of an audience.

The Happy Human Project are visiting our Year 4 children to carry out a workshop based on relaxation, mindfulness and laughter.
Class Wellbeing Assemblies for all other Year groups.
KS1 and KS2 Class Teacher information for 2023-24 will be shared with parents/carers today via the Arbor Parent Portal App. Children will be informed during the school day.
Tuesday
Schoolympics for Year 3 children at King James Academy (KJAR). The event will be led by the Sports Partnership and the Sports Leaders from KJAR. Children will need to wear their PE kit and trainers to school on this day so they are ready to enjoy the experience. They will also need to bring a named water bottle and dress appropriately depending on the weather. Please see the letter sent out from the PE Faculty for more information.

Millfield Transition Session: We have planned a transition session for Millfield children to enjoy spending time in their new classrooms getting to know their new teacher and support staff.

Friendship Ladder sports morning for KS1 and KS2 children. Children will enjoy spending part of the morning taking part in a variety of sporting activities within their Friendship Ladder groups.
