The Yurt:
Fri 10 Feb 2023The Yurt has been a wonderful outdoor learning environment to have at Millfield. Many lessons and events have been enhanced by the Yurt, such as yoga, art galleries, class reading sessions and mindfulness activities. Unfortunately, the yurt has now reached the end of its lifespan and will be removed over the half term break. We are excited to share that a new woodland shelter will replace the Yurt over the Spring Term.

Weekly Parent/Carer Information - Week Commencing: 6th February 2023

Class Assemblies today will focus on ‘Feeling Good Week’. During this awareness week, a spotlight is shone on the importance of children’s mental health across the UK. Every year there is a theme that is explored to highlight certain aspects of mental health. The 2023 theme is ‘Let’s Connect’.
To support teaching and learning we will be using resources from this website: https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/. This website also has a section with resources for families to use.
Tuesday
Safer Internet Day: Learning will be based around the theme ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online’. KS1 and KS2 Assembly today will be based on Safer Internet Day and will be delivered by the Maths and Computing Faculty.
3:30 – 7:00pm Parent/Carer Consultations: Meetings will be held in the hall. Please arrive via the car park gate and enter through the external hall doors. Please feel free to visit classrooms to view your child’s learning.
Wednesday
Year 1 Kings and Queens Day: For Year 1 parents/carers please see the letter sent out from the Year 1 team. Year 1 children are welcome to come dressed as royalty to celebrate this day.
Thursday
1:00 – 3:30pm Additional Nursery Parent/Carer Consultations: Please arrive and wait in the main school entrance. Mrs Everington will collect you from here at your designated time. You are not required to sign in at the school office.
3:30 – 5:30pm Parent/Carer Consultations: Meetings will be held in the hall. Please arrive via the car park gate and enter through the external hall doors. Please feel free to visit classrooms to view your child’s learning.

Half Term Award Assemblies for children in school.
Last day of half term: School finishes at the normal time of 3:15pm.

Hair:
Fri 03 Feb 2023Please support your child to tie their hair up for school. This is for a range of reasons, from keeping it out of their face when learning, including during PE lessons, as well as at break and lunchtimes when playing outside with friends. Hairbands must be plain black or navy blue and not too large.

Weekly Parent/Carer Information for Week Commencing: 30th January 2023
Fri 27 Jan 2023Big Schools’ Birdwatch: Over the week children from different classes will have the opportunity to find out which birds visit our school grounds. We will record how many birds we see, as well as the species. Mrs Cranko will collate our results and submit them to the Big Schools’ Birdwatch. A big thank you to Year 2 children who have been busy making bird feeders this week as part of their English learning. Monday

National Education Union Strike Day: Please see the letter previously sent out. Thank you for your support and understanding regarding this matter. As per the letter, due to a shortage of teachers on this day, Millfield is only able to open to Nursery, Olive Class, Birch Class and Maple Class.

As you will be aware, Parent/Carer Consultations are booked via the Parent Portal App on Arbor.The consultations will take place on Tuesday 7th February between 3:30pm and 7:00pm and Thursday 9th February between 3:30pm and 5:30pm.

The Maths and Computing Faculty have organised a fun number day for Millfield children. This will focus on cross curricular links between Maths and English.

Punctuality:
Fri 20 Jan 2023We understand that getting back into routines can be a challenge after a break from school. However, being on time for school provides a really positive and calm start to the day for children. It can be upsetting for children to be the last ones to arrive when their peers are already settled and ready to learn. Please support your child by being on site by 8.45am when the classroom doors open.
Please note, if individual arrival procedures have been discussed and agreed with the school for your child, please continue to arrive as planned.

Strike Action Impact:
Fri 20 Jan 2023As you may be aware, the National Education Union intend to carry out days of strike action over the coming months. The dates are: 1st February 2023, 1st March, 15th March & 16th March.
We are working with staff to establish the impact on teaching and learning of any strike action taken by teachers. We will be following guidance from the Department for Education and the Local Authority.
In reference to the strike action on 1st February, similarly to other schools, Millfield may not be running as normal. We anticipate being able to provide a full update to parents/carers early next week.
