As you may be aware, the National Education Union intend to carry out further days of strike action. The dates are: 5th July 2023 and 7th July 2023.
We are working with staff to establish the impact on teaching and learning of any strike action taken by teachers. We will be following guidance from the Department for Education and the Local Authority.
Similarly to other schools, Millfield may not be running as normal on these days. We anticipate being able to provide a full update to parents/carers in due course.
Due to the likely impact of strike days, we have looked at scheduled events and have made the following change:
Thank you for your understanding at this time.

Thank you to the English Faculty for organising this opportunity. It was lovely to see so many children enthusiastic about reading and browsing the variety of books on offer.
Millfield children have managed very well this week with the hot weather; they have been sensible with drinking and sitting in the shade. For next week, as the hot weather is forecast to continue, please support your child with the following:
- Ensure your child brings a water bottle with them every day.
- Ensure you apply suncream before school to your child.
- Ensure your child brings a sun hat.
- Children are welcome to wear their PE kit (even if it is not their PE day) or summer school uniform to keep as cool as possible.
The PTA had an ambitious calendar this year from the Christmas Fair, Movie Nights, School Discos and a Quiz Night. These events have been a real success and we would like to thank all involved for their support in raising funds for Millfield. Unfortunately, due to personal and professional commitments, the PTA are postponing the Summer Colour Run/Fair. This event is still planned for 2023, but not within this academic year. The PTA hope to confirm a September event date in due course. Please note, information will be shared with the current Year 4 parents/carers should current Year 4 children wish to attend. Thank you for your understanding. As always, if you would like to be part of Millfield PTA and/or help organise events, please contact the PTA (Alex, Becky or Emma, Millfield PTA members).

It was wonderful to officially open our new Eunice Woods Play Area on Monday. Millfield children have thoroughly enjoyed playing on the equipment this week. Children have commented on how amazing the area is.
You may be aware that the Met Office have issued a YELLOW Heat-Health Alert – Hot weather response between 09/06/2023 and 12/06/2023. If required, we will be taking measures such as ventilating rooms, switching off electrical devices, closing blinds and keeping children out of direct sun.
What can you do to help?
For next week, children are welcome to wear their PE kit (even if it is not their PE day) or summer school uniform to keep as cool as possible.
We are excited to share that Millfield will be running a Summer Holiday Club this year.

Bookings for the Holiday Club will open towards the beginning of the second Summer half term.
We will initially be offering the Holiday Club to current Millfield children and their older siblings, up to the age of 11 years old. After providing Millfield families with an early booking period, this provision will also be offered to the wider community of Buntingford.
The Cabin Team at Millfield are currently busy planning a wide range of exciting opportunities to take place during these weeks. Please look out for more information in due course.

Welcome back to the start of the second Summer half term!
Eunice Woods’ play area: We are excited to open up the ‘Eunice Woods’ play area on the first day back! Millfield children and staff will enjoy an open event during the afternoon. As previously shared, this play area was made possible due to the very kind donation made by Eunice Woods, who was a Millfield Governor for many years. To recognise Eunice’s amazing generosity, Millfield Governors and staff will further celebrate the opening of this area later in the Summer term.
A weekly rota will be used for the Eunice Woods’ Play Area to ensure all children have an opportunity to have fun with their friends using the play equipment. |

Class photos: All children will have their class photo taken today. Please ensure children are wearing their full school uniform.
Children in Reception and Year 2 will still have PE on this day; please ensure your child is wearing their school uniform to school and that they bring their PE kit in a named bag.
