  • Message from Mrs Kennedy-Weeks:

    Fri 14 Jul 2023

We have all experienced a week full of fun and new experiences at Millfield! From a seaside experience and Schoolympics to workshops on relaxation, mindfulness and laughter, we have all been kept very busy.

On Thursday morning, children excitedly moved up to their new classrooms and were keen and curious to get to know their new teachers and support staff. They were learning, making and sharing information to support their transition into the next academic year. There was such a buzz in school for the whole day; we are all so proud of Millfield children.

Year 4 children were bursting to share information about their Year 5 experiences during the transition day at their new middle schools. We felt so proud of every child and received lovely feedback from the new schools regarding Millfield children – Well done Year 4!

Thank you to Year 1 parents/carers, who have recently attended Year 1 Class Assemblies. I’m sure the Year 1 parents/carers would agree that the children did an amazing job at sharing their learning in front of an audience.

Thank you to Millfield families for joining us and cheering the children on. Due to the rain today, we had to postpone the Nursery Sports Event to Monday 17th July at 9:15am. After this event, we will count up all the scores in order to share the Sports Week winning House. The scores are very close, so watch this space!

    Sports Mornings

As shared in the letter sent out, we aim to start the sports mornings at 9:15am. After dropping your child off at their classroom door at the normal time, please make your way to the field where you can wait for the classes to arrive. Alternatively, you may want to leave the school site and return for the 9:15am start; if arriving for the start time, please access the school site via the Monks Walk Field Pedestrian Gate.

The sports equipment will be set-up so we are ready to go as soon as the classes arrive. Please do not allow any younger siblings to play with the equipment that has been set up for the sports activities.

For your child’s sports morning, please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit. In addition, as always, they will need their water bottle and sunhat. Dependent on the weather, please ensure they are wearing sun cream.

Key Stage 1 and 2 Sports Mornings: The children will compete in 8 timed activities within their house groups. The activities will demonstrate speed, catching, dribbling/shooting and throwing skills. After 6 minutes, a bell will ring to signify the end of each of the activities. Scores will be recorded and teams will move onto the next activity until all house groups have completed all events. As a finale, all children will have the opportunity to take part in a flat race.

EYFS Sports Mornings: The EYFS children will take part in a range of fun sporting activities that they have been enjoying within their PE lessons. After these activities, all children will have the opportunity to take part in a flat race.
