  • 🔬Science week

    Fri 13 Mar 2026

As part of science week, Millfield children from Nursery to Year 4 created stunning pieces of artwork inspired by patterns in nature. Each year group explored a different theme, from leaf patterns and spirals to symmetry, animal markings and patterns in water. The children showed great curiosity while learning about these natural patterns and their thoughtful pupil voice comments were added to the artwork to share their observations. The final pieces look absolutely amazing and really showcase the children’s science and creativity learning. 🎨✨

Over the week, children across all year groups have taken part in a range of exciting science explorations. From melting chocolate and learning about rocks to testing foil boats and much more, the children have loved investigating, experimenting and discovering new things. It has been a fantastic week of curiosity and hands-on learning! 🔬✨

  • 📚Buntingford Library Visit

    Fri 06 Mar 2026

It was a pleasure to welcome librarians from Buntingford to Millfield this week as part of celebrating World Book Day. The visits provided a wonderful opportunity for our children to further develop their love of reading and storytelling.

During the sessions, children explored a wide variety of books, discovering different genres, authors and illustrations. They also took part in creative activities, such as designing their own front covers, using their imagination to think about what their own stories might look like.

The children particularly enjoyed story time with the visiting librarians, who brought the stories to life and inspired lots of excitement about reading.

We would like to thank the Buntingford librarians for visiting and helping to make our World Book Day celebrations such a memorable experience for the children. 🌟

  • Did You Guess Right? 📚🍽️

    Thu 05 Mar 2026

Here are the book-inspired dishes the children created for World Book Day. Did you guess which dish matched each story correctly? 👀📖

  • Read, Read, Read! 📚

    Thu 05 Mar 2026

All the children loved Mrs Lewis’ t-shirt today! It certainly caught everyone’s attention and sparked lots of conversations about reading.

Mrs Lewis really hopes the children follow the advice on her t-shirt and is looking forward to hearing all about how they are reading 6–7 times a week! 📖✨

  • World Book Day Panto 🎭📚

    Thu 05 Mar 2026

Children were also treated to a very special World Book Day pantomime, performed by our teachers – Miss Phillips and the Beanstalk! It was full of laughs and the children loved seeing their teachers take to the stage.

Some of the children shared their favourite parts of the show:

    • “When Miss Phillips and Mr Hughes were being chased!”

    • “When Miss Phillips climbed the beanstalk.” (The beanstalk was brilliantly played by Mr Rome!)

    • “When Mr Rome (aka the beanstalk) was cut down!”

It was a fantastic way to bring stories to life and celebrate the magic of books together. 📖✨
